For Christmas Madeline got an easel with the facility to paint on a role of paper on one side and a chalk board on the other and has been making extensive use of both sides.

The other day she produced this:

When I questioned her what it was a picture of, I was very pleased to hear that it shows Prince Tamino and Princess Pamina undergoing the trial by water in the second act of The Magic Flute.

I knew she would love that easel. It is so charming, watching her paint away at it. She paints pictures all day long and then presents them to us. Of course, we've managed to hang them all up because we can't bear to just throw them away.

I am desperately envious of this new cover artist! All I ever produced at her age, were cars seen from above with a mess of fluffy scribbles in the back. Asked what that was, I explained it was a blanket. There was a blanket in all of my cars, whose wheels were kinda wobbly and white as was the case with our 1940ies Morris Minor.
However, asked what I wanted to become later in life, I answered "opera singer" because I so loved a certain record cover showing Elizabeth Schwarzkopf walking in a long blue dress on a beach. I imagined, being grown up would be like that and am glad to have found out, I wasn´t wrong.
