Here's the new house.

We should be moved in by the end of the month or not much later.

The real estate agent expressed surprise about how 'difficult' the former owner was. Considering she sold the house because she lost her job, and the emotional investment represented by the numerous rosebushes that cover the property, it would be surprising if she wasn't difficult.

Very cute. I'm a sucker for those mid-century chalet style entrances. I think of the old men in my old neighborhood who took meticulous care of their little houses.

Sad about the former owner; I'm sure she loved the place.

Keep an eye on that pine tree...

I'm honored you replied. Be sure I'll post pictures of any fungus or carnivorous plants I discover on the property.

The house itself was built in 1929. It's a very solid place. The floors are oak; the doorways arched; the doorknobs crystal--my husband is right--once I saw this place, I wanted to look at no other.

I am particularly fond of that entrance as well. Though you can't see it clearly from the picture, the knocker is, in fact, a lion's head. The children can't stop knocking with it.

Rose lovers take leaving their homes very seriously. We have invested much love in our gardens and are not at all sure that the next owner will do so. Many state laws forbid uprooting roses after a house is sold and so a piece of our hearts go with it.

Looks cute as a button to me.

Thanks. Mme. Malkhos never even let us look at another house.

That's a wonderful house! :-)

Thanks. I think of it as vaguely Bavarian, I wonder the impression from your perspective is?

All I've seen of Bavaria is Munich (which with all the flair of a big city looks different, of course). So I wouldn't know, but you may be right. In any case it does have a distinct South German look. (My first association was the Black Forest.)

I'm glad to hear you're going to post more pictures. It's been a while. I hope the kids are fine?

I went by today to check the mail (more serious work will start tomorrow) and they were quite amazing. One could almost think they are blooming in response to the change of hands it was timed so perfectly for them. I had no camera with me, but this icon is an early bloomer from last week. But I will probably take more picture tomorrow.

Its still in Collinsville, not much than a mile away.

I may post more photos tomorrow or Sunday. But I'll have to scale them down; with the new camera each snapshot is 2 or 3 meg.

Oh, absolutely you'll get more pictures eventually. Today, I'm going over to seriously start cleaning the place. While the previous owner took wonderful care of the place, it's gotten a bit dusty from having sat empty for about a year.

As cat lovers yourselves, one of the things I found very funny was that after she left (actually she is now in California with her family), she also left a handwritten note taped into one of the windows which reads--we haven't removed it yet--"In case of fire, please save my three cats." I just don't have the heart to take it down for some reason.

We were living with my in-laws.

Worked for a while (the place is really huge, so we weren't falling all over each other) but still, you're right.

I suspect once we're gone, and now that my brother's died, they'll probably sell the place and move to something smaller.
