My men asked my why the Prince delayed. I did not know what to tell them, except to have faith. But I latter learned what was happening while we waited. The priests were slaughtering one sheep after another until in the sixth or seventh one they found a liver whose signs allowed the prince to go forth to battle. Though they did not conceive it, the Gods in their infinite mercy were telling them to fly from disaster; trying to save their lives. But finally the Gods decided to punish the Prince for his hubris in refusing their kindly meant advice and passed the sentence of death on him and his army, sending them forth to destruction.
