The Feast of St. John the Baptist

I have already posted before about the strange ways in which Malkhos's mind works, usually in that he can remember without thinking the strangest, most obscure things but can't remember the simplest ones.

Today he was supposed to pick up a prescription for me. For some reason, my obstetrician wants me to take prescription prenatal vitamins this time rather than over-the-counter vitamins.

The pharmacist asked Malkhos to verify who I was by my birthday.

"September 24," he said.

Wrong.

"September 27," he said.

Wrong again. The pharmacist probably thought he was crazy by this time. That's actually Madeline's birthday. You'd think he'd know that just by the simple fact that Madeline's been talking a lot lately about her birthday, naming all the presents she wants and reminding everyone that she can do whatever she wants on her birthday.

"Well, I know it's on the feast of St. John the Baptist," Malkhos said. "That much I know."

Bingo!

I suppose the pharmacist might not have known what or when the feast of St. John the Baptist is--June 24--so instead she simply handed Malkhos my vitamins, definitely not a highly controlled narcotic with high street value, and got rid of him. What other choice would she have had except to call the proverbial men in the white coats?

I don't think that's strange. Kornelia is my best friend, I've known her for twenty years and we even talked about marriage sometimes, but I don't know her birthday. Sometime in May, I think. She doesn't know my birthday either. I don't even know my parents' exact birthday, although I do mostly send them presents at the approximate time in late January.

Oh, I know. I actually think this trait of his is kind of funny. It wasn't so much how he couldn't remember it so much as it was how he could.

The pharmacist's natural response should have been, "Birth or beheading?"

Of course! No one would ever not know both! :)

I have actually forgotten my own birthday. But then it came back to me!

Probably because others reminded you.

You definitely got me there;) I can be extremely a. forgetful b. clumsy c. thoughtless at times, but very, very luckily I am surrounded by extremely good friends who take care of my head when I occasionally lose it so I don“t have to go to Lost&Found to ask for it. I just love that kind of kindness.
