The Nicest Note I Ever Received

Madeline just came to me with a note. She knows how to write all her letters and can combine them into small words but not sentences yet. Still, she handed me her note and said, "Read it." Not wanting to discourage her writing attempt, I said, "No, you read it to me so we can see how well you read."

She said, "It says 'You are the best mommy ever.'"

Forgive my sentimentality, please, but I have the best child a person could ask for. If people could special order children, Madeline would be the model. She has the sweetest disposition of any child I've ever seen.

God, I'm hormonal.

I know. Here's the really interesting thing. When I think about how upset I was when I learned I was pregnant again, I look at her (don't get me wrong, I love Andrew equally, but Madeline is like the embodiment of angel), I realize the truth of the whole matter: children are a gift from God.

That one is definitely a keeper. I hope you have a folder started, in which to put all those mementoes... :D

Yes, she is. And yes, we keep almost everything she makes--well, not everything or we'd be up to our ears in paintings, drawings, and the like--but Malkhos has such archivist tendencies (I say "pack rat" when I'm in a bad mood :) if he doesn't hang it up or file it away, he takes a picture of it.

I find that when moments like that happen, it really hits me and makes me appreciate being a parent.

I know. And she's always been such an easy child, I wish everyone could have one just like her. Of course, I am a little biased. :)

When I told my mother I was pregnant again, I added, "I wouldn't mind having another Madeline but I don't think I could take another Andrew." Half in jest of course, but she's never been half as contrary as he is.

Aww how sweet :)

Weeell; "aaawww"! Almost makes me jealous of "Mötherhood" as an old illustrator and cartoonist friend put it in her in Sweden world-famous "Female Mystique" about parenthood and I´m not a bit hormonal. (I think.) That kind of sweetness should squeeze tears from a turnip, or blood or something; parental vegetable or not!

I'm not very sentimental by nature, but I got lucky with that one. :)
