The move went quite well and efficiently; we're still dealing with boxes and such, but nothing too bad. I couldn't find any of my work shoes yesterday, though, and wore flip-flops to work. I didn't get fired over it.

Getting internet access is going to be harder than we thought. I am posting this from work right now. The long and short of it is, the house had never been wired for cable television, much less internet access. At that point, when the workers explained this to us, I left for work knowing it will probably take four or five trips for the company to figure out how to "bring [our] home to life" (using the company's very motto). Malkhos can explain all that later; I have little patience for such explanations.

We are, however, moved. My flowers are coming along beautifully and the roses are making an impressive comeback with my tender care (I had to be brutal with them by pruning them back quite a bit to get them healthy again; Malkhos was horrified by the pruning and thought perhaps I was having a Mommie Dearest moment--me! The most levelheaded person in town. He looked dubious when I explained pruning actually encourages healthy growth, not the opposite, but now he's seeing I was right).

So, we hope to have internet access again soon. We hope everyone is doing well.

Ah, internet access always takes longer than you think it will. It is one of the rules of house moving. I remember the British Telecom engineer staring incredulously at the telephone pole outside our flat when we first moved in, as it dawned on him that we were the probably one of the last residences in the town to never have had a phone line installed.

The 'goons' as Mme. Malkhos called them, who came out yesterday, claimed they could not climb the telephone pole they needed to climb since it had been marked unsafe, so it remains unkown when it will be installed. If they have to errect a new pole, it might be later rather than sooner.

I am posting from the public library now.

Haha. The same thing happened here. They had to install a new pole.

My, that's even worse--no telephone. Well, I can understand why one wouldn't want a telephone, actually. I hardly ever use them myself and could easily live without one if I had to. Quite the opposite for most in the U.S.--you see people talking and texting (God, I hate that term) everywhere! Is it like that in the UK? Do people talk on cell phones and text others from the craziest places like in the grocery? While driving? In the theater? During class? In church? At funerals? While actually trying to speak to another human being face to face?

France Telcom has seen a huge drop in customers in the past five years. Most people under 30 don't bother with a traditional telephone. I think this has a lot to do with sticking it to a hated and absurdly expensive utility company. Almost everyone who has a "landline" gets their phone service via their ISP.

Hugely popular here, yes, and in the rest of Europe. My in-laws in the Czech Republic don't have land line phones anymore, neither does my sister in Australia.

You're betraying Luddite tendencies here I think. Blogs, email and texting are gifts to people like me who were formerly addicted to communicating via 5-day airmail.

You certainly called this one. As of today, Charter Communications has now scheduled workers to come out on July 14th. This would be close to three weeks after we moved. I'm going to take Doubting Thomas approach: I'll believe it when I see it.
