Meeting Jakob

porphyryWe were all finally able to go meet our nephew/cousin last night. My children were finally over their colds and Andrew was free of his strep throat (although up through Wednesday Madeline was a veritable mucous factory).
Jakob is already six days old and doing well. He is a very handsome little baby with nicely proportioned features, and I predict at six months, he'll be a remarkably beautiful child. When he cried, Madeline worried, "Why is he doing that, Mommy?" and I told her that he was hungry. Andrew, of course, was pleased that the baby seemed to like his "bobo" (that means a pacifier, something Andrew heartily approved of and ultimately had to have taken away from him by me because he refused to surrender it on his own).
After we left, Malkhos and I agreed, guiltily, that we were more or less glad to be done with raising babies. After I had Andrew, I longed for another, and so we had Madeline. After I had her, though, the sight of another pregnant woman or newborn baby didn't create those feelings of longing anymore. It was nice, rather, to visit and leave, knowing I wouldn't be the one getting up two or three times a night for weeks on end.
Having a nephew suits us just fine.

Madeline, of course--who will be three next Saturday, the 27th--is still hard to get to sit still for more than five seconds, so she's a bit blurry, but I agree, Andrew looks very cute.
