Last night Andrew informed me that everyone has a bad impulse and a good impulse (when I expanded on this by telling him it is as if we were all charioteers with one good horse and one bad horse he didn't quite comprehend, probably because he doesn't know what a chariot is).

Later he made his first efforts at spelling by associating the letters with repetitive patterns in the wallpaper, practicing the art of memory.
