I was just reading a rather leanred descirption of examining electronic reproductions of photographs of ancient manuscripts; epcifically how resizing and other automatic manipualtions can change letter forms to suggest readings quite different from those made from the actual text or from traditional photographs.

The author called it Foto Morgana.
