that is the difference between what seems and what is, not a matter of perspective. But there was no excuse for that original confusion.

Watson once said that Holmes did not know whether the earth went round the sun, or the sun round the earth, because the matter did not concern the science of detection, but I doubt if that whole audience had a similar excuse.

Non, non, non--the reason why these people were all so confused was because they believe that the entire universe revolves around "La France." The question, therefore, was entirely improperly phrased to their sensibilities.
