I imagine one could easily get mixed up on days in the hospital, either as a patient or as staff. One day must seem much like another.
When my brother was in the hospital for a long period of time, there was a dry erase board in his room, and the nurse on duty each day was supposed to write the day and date, but it wasn't done half the time. It confused me.
