Away in a manger

We bought M. a new collection of Little Golden Books. Most are Christmas themed. Tonight we read her one that retells the Legendum Aureum conflation of the infancy narratives in Mathew and Luke (Mme. Malkhos is telling to change this to 'Christmas Story'). Now, especially lately since she's had a cold, Madeline is fascinated with being in a nest, wrapped up in pillows and blankets (among other things). So when we got to the manger part, she immediately lit up, pointing and animatedly shouting, 'A nest! A nest!.' And then was even more enthusiastic to see a baby put in it.

I wonder if equating the Baby Jesus to being a baby bird constitutes blasphemy?

Ah, probably not--the whole story of Jesus does, after all, echo the myth of the phoenix who was a bird too.

Have you been reading Lactatnius' De ave Phoenicia again?

Not if it's in Latin, I haven't.
