Austrian Fantasy
Sep. 1st, 2008 08:43 pmSoon I shall finish a book called The Dedalus Book of Austrian Fantasy: 1890-2000, a very good selection of stories if fantasy fiction is to your liking. A strange mixture, indeed, and not too heavy on Kafka (whom I do like quite well), and the Kafka that was included departed from the standard Metamorphosis, The Trial, etc.
But today, in a story near the end of the book, I read a quote that is both decadent and paradoxical: "We have always betrayed each other as honestly as possible," he said, and trembled.
