The last of the Khnopff pictures is the one that I like best. I didn't about the Khnopff house, I think I can place that. Seeing pictures of Bruges fills me with nostalgia, it is too perfect to exist. Although it must have been even more wonderful when it was more closed in on itself in the 19th Century, it is not really spoiled, a good less so than Oxford, say, but suffers from an excess of visitors whom one can avoid if one goes at the right time or gets away from the most frequented areas. The town is very well maintained and lively, it might perhaps have felt a bit tatty and decayed - and moribund - in the 19th century, so there have possibly been good developments too. Thank you for these, I hope you have recovered from your sleepless night. Were Rodenbach's photographs published in the original edition of Bruges-la-Morte?
